The Journey Begins

Day 1: Sample Itinerary - Depart Port Hardy for Great Bear Lodge

Meet your seaplane in Port Hardy for a flight into the remote wilderness and arrive at the lodge late afternoon. You'll travel over breathtaking scenery of the central coast and the Queen Charlotte Strait - home to orca, gray and humpback whales. Enjoy a welcome from the lodge hosts at the dock upon your arrival and start your grizzly bear experience right away. Embark on a boat excursion to one of the viewing platforms along the river to where there is reported bear activity for the day. Enjoy an wilderness-gourmet meal at the lodge and relax for the rest of the evening.

Day 2: Bear viewing adventures

Enjoy breakfast and coffee and return on the trail of the grizzly bear for a morning viewing session. The sessions usually last three hours and require minimal walking but will involve some stairs to viewing platforms. Return to the lodge for lunch and time to relax and then you may choose to join a guide for an afternoon walk in the surrounding area. This guided forest walk will examine signs of bears and general ecology of the area. You'll embark on one more bear viewing adventure this afternoon before returning for dinner at the lodge.

Day 3: Bear viewing adventures continue

As bears are most active in the morning and evening it is important to maximize your changes of wildlife spotting by heading out early. You'll enjoy a guided morning viewing again today and then this afternoon may be opportunity to take a cruise to explore the glacier-carved inlet or relax at the lodge.

Day 4: Reflections of your adventures

On your final day at the lodge you'll be treated to one more viewing excursion and take your scheduled flight back to Port Hardy arriving late afternoon.
